Local METS companies urged to apply for Made in Queensland grants

Queensland mining equipment, technology and services companies (METS) are being urged to apply for the Palaszczuk Government’s latest round of Made in Queensland grants to boost their capacity and employment opportunities.

METS Ignited CEO Adrian Beer said the Government is making available grants of between $50,000 to $2.5 million to support companies to become more internationally competitive and adopt innovative processes and technologies, and support businesses looking to bring manufacturing activity to Queensland.

“METS has been identified as a priority industry by the Queensland Government and part of its Unite and Recover Strategy to propel the State’s economy and employment through and beyond COVID-19, the $15.5 million Made in Queensland initiative will certainly boost this” he said.

METS Ignited works with the Queensland Government, through the Department of State Development, Innovation, Local Government and Planning, and regional partners to deliver the Government’s 10-year METS Roadmap and Action Plan (2017-27).

“In 2021, we are seeing strong growth, and with the Queensland METS Roadmap now in its fourth year, the METS industry in Queensland continues to grow strongly; supporting the local, national and global resources and energy sector,” said Adrian Beer.

“The Made in Queensland grants are timely for our industry with the Australian Government also prioritising Resources Technology and Critical Minerals Processing through its Modern Manufacturing Strategy,” he said.

This round of Made in Queensland funding has expanded to include matched funding in three areas: the implementation of Industry 4.0 technology, adoption of advanced manufacturing capability, and reshoring or onshoring of critical industries such as METS.

A free online information session will be held on Thursday 29 April between 12-1pm AEST – register here.
